OWL in an ACORN WREATH

 

MATERIALS (all sizes are approx.)

22” square for night sky

12” square for moon

22” square wadding

22 “square lightweight backing fabric

18” x 32” approx. fusible web – I used bondaweb

AUTUMN FOLIAGE – I used various shades of greens/reds/oranges/pinks

In total I used 27 leaves, you can select your own layout and number to make it unique and personalised

1 x piece, 7” x 9” for oak leaves (for 9 leaves)

1 x piece, 4” x 5” for rowan leaves (for 3 leaves)

3 x piece 5” x 4” x for leaf 1 (for 3 acer leaves)

1 x piece 5”x 3 ½” for leaf 2 (for 3 batik leaves)

1 x piece 5” x 4” for leaf 3 (for 2 leaves)

Scraps of green/oranges/reds for an optional leaf 4 shape

1 x 6 ½” x 5” for leaf 5 (for 3 leaves)

1 x 7”x 6” for leaf 6 (for 4 dotty batik leaves)

ACORNS & BERRIES

3“x 3” in red, for rowan berries, or you could use small red buttons if preferred.

1 x 4” x 5” for acorns – or smaller pieces in browns, if each acorn is a different colour

1 x 3” x 4” for caps – or smaller pieces in browns, for different coloured ones

OWL

3” x 4” for head

1 ½” square for beak

2” square for forehead

4” x 2 ½” for face

1” sq + 2” sq + 2 ½ “sq in 3 different shades for eye area

7”x3” + 2(8”x 2 ½”) for wings in 3 different shades

4” x 6” for chest

8”x3” for body

1 ½” sq for feet

Machine threads - to suit your fabrics (I used 3 greens; 1 red; 2 browns; 2 shades pale grey/white)

Long quilter’s ruler to mark lines – or similar to mark quilt lines

Embroidery/metallic machine needle

Pencil/pen to trace designs, chalk pen to mark quilting lines

Greaseproof paper to protect iron/cover
